The holidays sparkle with lights, laughter, and pets sneaking cookies off the counter. While nothing compares to the artistry of a fine art portrait, I believe every moment deserves to be remembered. Here are a few tricks to elevate your cell phone holiday snapshots into keepsakes.

5 Tips for Holiday Pet Portraits

  • 1. Stage with intention.

One elegant prop, a wreath, a single ornament, or a cozy blanket creates impact without chaos.

  • 2. Meet them eye-to-eye.

Portraits taken at your pet’s level feel more intimate and soulful. Don't have their necks stretched up looking. Get down at their eye level.

  • 3. Bounce the light (with a helper).

Natural window light is best, but here’s the unexpected trick: ask someone to hold a car windshield reflector facing the window. Watch how the light bounces back onto your pet. It creates a soft, glowing effect that makes fur look luminous. (excellent for black dogs)

  • 4. Quiet focus.

Hold a treat near your lens instead of waving toys. You’ll get sharp, expressive eyes instead of motion blur. (Give them high value treats only used for photos.)

  • 5. Embrace the candid.

Capture them mid-paw, mid-sniff, or mid-snooze. Ripping open gifts, laying in your lap or playing with a new toy. The imperfect moments often become the most perfect memories.

The Fine Art Portrait Difference

Cell phones capture memories. Fine art portraits preserve legacies. My studio creates soulful, wall-worthy images that honor your pet’s spirit for generations.

This holiday season, give the gift of fine art pet portraits in Memphis and the Mid-South. Families across Cordova, Collierville, Bartlett, Germantown, Olive Branch, Southaven, and Shelby County trust me to transform their pets into timeless art pieces. Purchase a gift certificate for someone you love (or for yourself). It’s more than a session, it’s an heirloom legacy.
